Turtle-less mode?

Apologies if this is well covered already. Our 2021 Pacifica Hybrid suddenly stopped running on the highway, lost all power, and quickly decelerated. We were able to pull over to the side of the highway and tried a few conservative things (turning it off, letting it rest, opening and closing the doors, etc). But each time we started it, it would only allow us to go about 3 km/hr and would shake a bit while doing that. Going in reverse was no problem. We had it towed to our dealer and it will be seen sometime in the next 2-3 weeks!

We never saw any warning lights, indicators, or turtles, etc at all during the whole process! Any insights as to what this could be?
Thank you!

Without DTCs, it is a guessing game.

Possible causes are:
Your 12-volt battery may have failed, causing malfunctions due to low voltage.

Bad ground/s.

Failed PIM but should have gotten the red wrench and service hybrid systems warning in the instrument cluster.

Failed transmission, but I have not heard of them shaking. If the transmission fails, you typically receive the 'vehicle will shut down soon' message in the instrument cluster.

Thanks for the information. I'll report back once they've had a chance to look at it.... approximately another 16 days from now! This is the second time this van will be stuck on the lot for weeks (the first was with the battery coolant heater failure). The strange thing is that, despite the inconveniences it has caused, both my wife and I still like it! Maybe if the 2025 turns out to be more reliable, we should consider upgrading.

Well - the dealership looked at our vehicle. After shutting down on the highway and sitting on their lot for 3 weeks, it apparently fixed itself because they called to tell me they could find nothing wrong with it! I said I thought that was strange because, when I left it, it would max out at 3 km/hr! Then they called back to say they had done a firmware upgrade and reset some warning about speed? When we picked it up, they handed us the keys so we never received any paperwork or anything on what they did......it seems to drive fine but I'm definitely nervous about the summer car trip season!

....and it stopped working again! My wife was driving to our house and it lost all power. The battery (which was at about 40%) suddently went to < 1% and lost all forward momentum. This time, it would no longer power in reverse. I was able to drift it to the bottom of our hill and side of the road. Obviously, we will need to tow it back to the dealership (perhaps for another 3 week stay to be looked at!). Anyone have an idea what this could be? Perhaps I could steer the dealership in the right direction. Thank you in advance!

Not without any DTC info.

I'm picking it up from the dealership again today. Unfortunately, they could not detect any problems so I'm afraid this isn't over. Somehow they are able to reset things to restore forward movement again but I'm not sure what they do? (I'll ask for a service record). A couple things have occurred to me but I'm not sure if they are worth pursuing or not:

1. We have some minor damage to the front bumper and that piece is slightly dislodged. Maybe a sensor is faulty? (But I would think we would get a dashboard indicator of some kind)
2. We had a brutal winter - maybe the 12V battery is malfunctioning as a result but would we not have other noticeable issues as well?
3. The longevity of the battery has been declining and I notice that the cars behaviour about the hybrid mode and electric mode has changed (I used to be able to "force" it into hybrid mode by cranking the heat or the fan past 3 - now it stays in electric mode even if I do that). I mention it because both times are van has quit, the battery was reading ~%40 and then suddenly went to <1% and we lost all forward momentum. It's maybe an issue with the switching between the electrical and hybrid modes?

Sorry, I know trying to help someone as ignorant as myself without any error codes or diagnostic codes is probably pretty futile but I feel like I need to have some directions to guide our dealership in!

Ok - I was able to get the service records from the two visits so far:

1. On the first, they found DTCs for HCP AND PCM (U0415-00, U1852-00, U140A, U1409). They then applied updates for HCP, AHCP and BRCM and reset these modules. The van then developed a CEL and they found a DTC for a front wheel speed sensor. They removed the sensor and reattached it without issues found and reset the Anti-lock Braking System module.

2. The second visit, however, they could find no DTCs or issues at all!

We got the van yesterday and I charged it up and (at their suggestion), I drove it around the neighbourhood until the battery ran out and there were no problems at all. The only "abnormality" I noticed is that the callibration of the battery may be not as accurate (it will drop from 100% to 80% in a matter of minutes but then stay in the 80s for much longer, then drop faster, etc). Further, even with the heat cranked, it stays in electric mode (again, I'm not sure that is an "error" per se, just different to how it used to behave as it would switch to ICE at that point). Finally, and I've never paid attention to this before, once the battery was deplete, it would switch quite frequently between hybrid and electric mode. At first, I thought this was because I was driving slowly in my neighbourhood but even on the highway, the same occurs. (ie. it will switch from hybrid to electric mode for about 20 seconds while travelling 90km/hr with a battery <1%). But maybe this is expected behaviour as it is constantly charging?
