Hello,

similar issue here, how is this resolved for you?
What are the symptoms? Have you taken your Pacifica to a dealer? What do they say?

2018 Chrysler pacifica touring L
Had a code pop up, misfire cylinder 4.
Soon afterwards smelled that Coolant smell. Got it to the shop immediately. Bad head gasket. Sent the heads out to get inspected. Come back fine. Shop goes to start putting everything back together. Technician notices a crack in the block. Warranty company refuses to honor the warranty. Say they won't cover because it was from overheating.
I complain and fight with them about it. They send in a 3rd party to inspect it. Inspection finally comes back it has not over heated, cracked for a different reason. I'm not that technical of a person. I can do routine maintenance but nothing inside the motor.
So warranty company is to replace the motor. Now wants maintenance records. So I send them my records. Dates, milage for each oil change. Now they want receipts. And now I can only produce 5 of them. Rest of them have faded away, and I can't read them any more. I have to have 8. Just has to have the oil and filter on them. I change my own oil. Now I am gonna have to pay for this myself because my receipts have faded. Has anyone had this issue before. Any idea on how to fix this?

Hi @schreurs11. Sorry to hear of the engine failure in your Pacifica. It's too bad your receipts faded such that they were unreadable. Have you tried scanning them? Sometimes with the right scanner settings they can "come back to life."

No, I havnt tried that. The important part of the reciepts that show what oil and filter are either blacked out from being a thermal transfer reciept, or has faded away. This is extremely frustrating. Almost $4000 because these are unreadable. And I only needed 3 of them. That's the kind of luck I have had. Pacifica has been down since a week before Halloween. New motor still hasn't showed up at the shop yet. And 11 days after this went down. Rear main seal on my 2016 Terrain went out for the 2nd time, in less than a year.
When it rains it pours. ..

How about credit card records? Regardless I would fight them on it. A head gasket doesn't blow as a result of something 2 or 3 oil changes and 15,000 miles ago. It's a catastrophic failure. They have nothing to stand on. Which company is pulling this on you?

Route 66 extended warranty. Always used full synthetic, always changed well before needed. Kinda old school 3,000 to 4,000 miles. Not the 7,500 like it says on the oil. Neglect is deffinatly not the case.

Symptoms happened after the radiator was replaced by dealership it was overheating and we were told there was a crack in the radiator. Within the week car had a rough idle, coolant smell and leak, car getting hotter but not “technically overheating “, brought it back. Dealer told us it was a cylinder 3 misfire code. it cost $2k just to go into the engine not including repairs. We took it to another mechanic, got some things repaired (tune up , replaced spark plugs and a few others). Got the car back, without he week, same issue. Brought back to mechanic, paid for more repairs (new water pump, flush coolant, and a few others). Within the week symptoms return and here we are…

This thread regards blown head gaskets. You originally mentioned you are having a similar issue, but are you? When they went into the engine for $2k did they find coolant in cylinder #3? Blown head gasket? Warped cylinder head? Cracked block? Any or all of these things can happen if the engine overheats. And, I'm sorry to say, sometimes the only solution is a new engine.

Have you tried taking a picture with your phone of the receipts and then playing with the saturation levels to make them legible? You can use a free online phot editor to get results like this...

Conversely, some cell phones have built in photo tools that can perform a similar color correction. I used both of these methods to read what was written in marker under the paint on my walls that was barely visible.

We didn’t pay for them to go into the engine, we took it to another mechanic for a second opinion. They recommended other options and we went with that, however the car is still leaking coolant, and doing all that it’s been doing. So the “fix” hasn’t actually fixed the issue. We are very much still in this situation. So I’m on this forum looking for similar issues. This seems to describe exactly what’s happening

Ok, thanks. Please let us know when you have a more definitive diagnosis and solution. This means someone will need to determine the source of the coolant leak. They should also check for coolant in any misfiring cylinders which is a sure sign of a blown head gasket. I may need to add your username to the list of those with failed engines.

Merry Christmas to me. My wife's 2017 is currently in the shop with "potentially" a failed head gasket. It only has 82,000 miles, and the dealer doesn't know if the head will need to be replaced or just the gasket. On top of that, he wants to charge me $1000 for a tune-up after they put everything back together. $1000 for a tune-up?! This is piracy. Unfortunately, I can't send a message to @ChryslerCares until I meet a certain amount of posts. Hopefully they see this and reach out.

If you do the head gasket only, you will replace the complete engine shortly after the 12-month/12,000 miles of warranty expires. This issue is far greater than a head gasket issue.

Make sure they inspect the block. We thought just head gasket too. Ours never overheated, still no explanation on what went 1st. Head gasket or the block cracking but new motor at 103,000.

My dealer service center contacted Chrysler and Chrysler wouldn’t supply them with a replacement long block and would only replace the engine as a repair option. They obviously know the head gasket/block repair won’t fix it for long as they also changed the powertrain (repairs) limited warranty to no longer cover engine overheating on vehicles brought in for engine repairs after September 30, 2023. They still provide a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty on a new engine, though. If you go on mopar.com and either create or login to your account there, you can look up the updated warranty under Powertrain Limited Warranty. I also posted it on the failed engine list thread.

Meanwhile, as of today my Pacifica is still sitting at the dealership since the day before Thanksgiving while Chrysler Customer Support and the service department are still playing phone tag regarding my case. Thank goodness I have a family car I can borrow until this gets figured out.

The way I read that change to the warranty was 'previously replaced engines under warranty will not be replaced a second time under warranty'...
