Carplay stopped working

All of a sudden my Carplay won't connect anymore. The cable has been left connected to the dash USB port, I always plug and unplug the phone end. I have tried different phones and different cables, all fail. Charging no longer works from this port, but does from the port down at floor level.

Having read similar threads here I tried pulling some fuses that mentioned USB or Uconnect, and checked that they were not blown, but maybe I missed something. Anyone know a sequence that I can try that worked for them?

[Edit: removed another question about Bluetooth streaming, which did as expected turn out to be user error on my part.]

Thank you

There's no wireless Carplay in my 2019. I need to plug in.

I have two phones, two cars, two cables. Everything worked everywhere until suddenly it stopped in the Pacifica. Both phones and both cables still work fine in the wife's car (Carplay and charging), none of them work in my Pacifica anymore, so I'm pretty sure the Pacifica has a problem. The question is whether I can get it working with some kind of reset, or if it needs to go to the dealer.

have you tried a soft reset of the Uconnect system?
  1. Ensure your vehicle is in park and in “Run” mode.
  2. Press and hold down the volume and tuner knob buttons at the same time.
  3. Hold down the knobs for 10 – 20 seconds.
  4. After holding down the knobs, the screen should flash your vehicle brand name and then go dark.
  5. After a few moments the brand name will return, the system will reinitialize, and it will return you to the main UConnect screen.

I was not able to perform a reset with this method. Pushing and holding the buttons had no effect. Tried "run" mode with the engine running and "run" mode with the engine off. Tried starting with the Uconnect on, and pushing both buttons just turned it off. Tried starting with Uconnect off and it just turned on, but never did the car brand logo or anything different to normal.

Ive had this happen MULTIPLE times and the fix has been different each time, BUT the phone always works in our other vehicle. Best solution is restarting the phone AND the car. Seems the wireless connection to UConnect gets stuck - especially with 2 active phones. Ive had this car for only a few months and its more buggy than any other car we've had. Disappointing.

Well, I must have missed this in my previous adventures in the fuse box, but pulling fuse 76 and replacing it was enough to get it working again for now. I found posts that said that this is the only way to reset the Uconnect system nowadays; all of the previous magic button press or opening and closing the door combinations don't work on more recent systems.

I had a similar problem with Android Auto, and my eventual solution might work for you too. The real problem seems to be interoperability between two software applications such as UConnect and Android Auto. I tried all kinds of suggestions such as pulling the fuse, resetting the radio, numerous cable upgrades, etc. but here's what works every time -- except if the car's already running and bluetoothed to my wife's iPhone:
1) Turn the car off.
2) Go to Settings on the phone's menu.
3) Search the phone's settings for USB Preferences (may be called something else on iPhones).
4) Connect the phone to the car with any decent USB cable.
5) Under "USB Controlled By" select "This device".
6) Under "Use USB For" select "File transfer / Android Auto"
7) Press the car's Start button

Once I've gone through this process, the car/phone combination tends to remember to start Android Auto as long as I plug the phone in before I start the car.

This worked for me. Thanks.

In addition to Fuse 76 that hard resets the UConnect system, Fuse 28 resets the evil USB-hub which sits between UConnect and the dash USB-port. Fuse 28 reset is less dramatic and it works well to restore missing Android Auto connection.

This problem is universally of intermittent nature, I begin to strongly suspect that the act of plugging-in and pulling out the phone's USB connector when the cable is powered by USB-5V, the transients in the 5V or signal lines cause the evil USB-hub to shut down.

One can argue that this is not a Chrysler/UConnect problem, nor the phone manufacturer's problem, but the car owner is trapped between this blame game. The commonly suggested solution to replace the cable is to shift the blame again from Chrysler/UConnect or Phone manufacturer to the poor cable manufacturer which really is not his fault either.

The work around for me:

After I enter the vehicle, I plug the USB cable to the phone first, then the cable's connector to the dash USB connector. Presumably the larger USB connector has more robust connectors that generate less power/signal transients.

Before I exit the vehicle, I disconnect the vehicle's USB connector, then the phone connector.

The trick seems to be avoiding plugging or unplugging the phone's tiny connector while the USB cable is energized by the dash USB.

Pulling only Fuse 28 worked to fix CarPlay not working with 2 different phones in my 2021 Pacifica Hybrid. Thank you! I'm just hoping I don't have to do this very often.

Edit: someone on Reddit also suggested simply holding the radio power button for 10-20 seconds to hard reboot the infotainment. That also worked for me.

All these methods did not work for me. Note, the usb outlet does not charge the iPhone either. Youtube video showed easy replacement of the USB media hub. Wow great Found at a dealer $90. Drum roll….still no recognition for charging or carplay. Parts guy said sometimes its wiring issue. So many bucks to solve I’m sure. 2020 ltd.
