Not sure what you're trying to do here. Are you trying to enable Carplay or Android Auto on it? If not, what is the difference between 3rd and 4th Gen ?

I am also interested to see if we can enable Carplay on this.
That was my goal, but the more I talked to folks it's not possible on the 2017 hardware in the Pacifica even when attempting to cross flash a firmware from a 2017 Charger, Challenger, or 300 due to a VIN check in the firmware. I also learned that the 2018 hardware of the Pacifica they changed from Harman to Panasonic and different USB connections.

Hopefully in time someone will crack this nut, but so far Infotainment and NavRepair.com said not possible

If there is a way to get Carplay & Android Auto on a 2017, I want to know about it! I've read somewhere that it's not possible to interchange the hardware either (plug differences and CAN Bus differences) I REALLY want AA on it! Although I must say, the built in NAV is pretty nice, and most people that use ACP and AA say they really don't use it as much as they thought they would. I suppose having to plug the phone in every time to use ACP or AA would be a pain...?

I have AA ON MY 17 Cadillac and love it so much that I bought AA compatible stereo for my old 1994 landcruiser. I love the interface and being able to say what I want without having to use my phone. It works for navigation and I use Waze, responding to texts, playing music, and my home automation...I no longer keep a garage door opener clicker in my old landcruiser or program the home link in my cars. I just tell google to open my garage door when I get close to home. One thing I have noticed is in the summer my phone starts getting pretty hot when I use multiple things at once. I started pointing one of the vents at it and it helps.

Pretty disappointed that our 17 Pacifica doesn't have it.

What about swapping out the hardware for the 2018 hardware? At this point I'm willing to explore that to get CarPlay...

Seems Infotainment is now advertising the 2017 Pacifica Upgrade with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto - https://www.infotainment.com/collec...017-chrysler-pacifica-gps-navigation-vp4-ru-radio-upgrade?variant=9337471434788 - SKU: C-UAV-RU + C-DISP-RU18

I am now trying to find out from NavRepair if they can perform this same update to existing hardware; of course it would just be awesome if Chrysler gave us the update as originally advertised. https://navrepair.com/collections/c...ctions/chrysler-gps-navigation/products/update-service-ra3-ra4-vp3-vp4-na-ca-eu

So I received the unit today and tried to install it. There are some differences between the RA4 and the UAV and the wires in the dash (for example, there's an orange coax that was connected to the RA4 and when I called into Infotainment's support they said I didn't need to connect that to anything on the UAV (but I still asked them what it was for, and so far they haven't gotten back to me yet). Also, there's a black connector on the back of the UAV that's apparently a diagnostic port and I was told to ignore it. (I'll post pictures of the units for comparison tomorrow).

When I connected the available wires and harness to the UAV, it turned on and was able to control my in-car HVAC (good sign), CarPlay worked great, but I cannot hear any audio (fairly major issue, right?). I have a 2017 Limited, and I called Infotainment right as their support was closing, so hopefully tomorrow they'll get back to me with why the unit isn't sending audio to the speakers. Fingers crossed. I'll let everyone here know what happens tomorrow.

Quick update: Apparently, leaving the UAV in the car for a bit then coming back to it has fixed the problem. This unit appears to do discovery over the car's CAN bus and tailors the user interface elements to the specific car (for example, the Media function showed a "USB 1" and "USB 2" function when I connected it and turned it on, but since then, those disappeared and only a single "USB" button is presented (which makes more sense considering the lower USB power did not recognize the phone I plugged in but the top USB *did*)).

The user interface is *noticeably* faster, so it's clear the microcontroller in the UAV is significantly beefier (and/or the software was well-written on the UAV). Additionally, my top two most-hated bugs in the RA4 are fixed in the UAV --- namely, when playing music via USB, the first 2-3 seconds are NO LONGER cut off. Same goes for Bluetooth. I'll post more updates once I drive-test this on my commute :).

The image on the left is the old (RA4) unit. The arrow is pointing to the terminal where an orange cable was connected. Infotainment said this cable did not need to be connected to the new UAV unit. On the right, the picture of the UAV unit with an arrow pointing to what Infotainment says is a diagnostic port (and therefore can be ignored -- no connection).

Thanks for the instructions and pictures. They were very helpful. I would have expected this information to be provided by Infotainment.

On my swap from a 2017 RA4 to the UA4, like you, I didn't connect the orange cable (that was connected to the bottom left of the RA4 unit). I didn't have a Pink or Red cable to connect to the far right coax connectors on the UA4 unit, so I they don't have cables plugged into them.

So far everything appears to be working fine (but I only just finished installing it, so time will tell).

Thanks again, extremely helpful information.

Just to sum up: Infotainment sent me (1) The head unit, (2) The screen unit preinstalled in a brand new faceplate that did NOT include the vents (I had to transfer them from the original one in the car -- no big deal, just 4 hex screws per vent), (3) A video cable. There was no harness included because the existing harness fit in the UAV perfectly. There were also no instructions, just a sheet that described return instructions and whom to call for help.

So i think I'm getting somewhere...I was able to get the unlock pin for the radio I purchased and after hours of searching the internet haphazardly I believe I finally found the video interface cable that infotainment includes in their bundle. It's a FAKRA HSD B male to male cable. I ordered it but it's coming from China so who knows how long it will take. Estimated arrival from the other items they sell on ebay is 30-45 days. I've included the link for reference. I'll update the thread when I get it.

For the FAKRA cable any reason this one wouldn't work?

Says next day shipping within the States.

winner winner chicken dinner!

So the cable finally arrived and it worked! The screen came on and showed the radio was locked. I input the lock code that I received from a friend and it unlocked the radio. My friend did tell me that if you start the car and wait long enough the lock code would go away. I was impatient and couldn't wait plus I had the code so...as @Sethmeister had stated, doing anything with uconnect services breaks android auto and you either have to wait for the van to fully go to sleep or you can pull and reset fuse F76 under the hood and that resets it. Everything else works perfectly so far. I'll update this thread if I experience any issues. I'm finally 100% satisfied with the van. My only regret about getting a 17 was the lack of android auto.

I ordered the display and processor from http://www.car-part.com. I'm guessing stock # AX5097 will work but I'm not sure why it says no nav and xm radio.
The cable is https://www.rfstreet.com/ch_contentd.asp?id=3252. It's pretty long in it's standard size and it looks like you can request a shorter size than the standard. I would say one foot is plenty.
I'm guessing the orange cable that isn't used is the 3g data cable so it has no place on the new processor. it wont pug into the new unit because each color coded connector has its own profile so it's not accidentally plugged into the wrong port. I don't know if you can get a cable that has an orange connector on one side and whatever color the 4g connector is on the other side and if the data would actually work. I don't care about any of those services so I'm not putting any effort into figuring it out at this time.

Hi guys,

Thought I'd start a new thread with information specifically related to this modification instead of hogging the "what's new in this thread" thread.

I want to start off by saying thanks to @sethmeisterg. He got me thinking when he did his infotainment installation and he gave me some great info via messaging. In hopes of not having to retype all the posts, I've transferred all the info relating to this topic from that thread.

Your choices so far are go the infotainment route and purchase their upgrade or go the junk yard route and find a UAV screen and processor, buy them and then order the Fakra cable that I linked in this thread.
Feel free to mention me in this thread if you have a question and I'll get back to you.

As of today, I'm still waiting for the over the air update to go through that fixes the presets resetting and the phone book re downloading. Hopefully, it comes through or I'll be taking it in to the dealer in the next couple of weeks to see if they'll do a manual update. The only things I still can't get to work is the text and go feature, the phone app because it links the Uconnect to the now parted out donor vehicle, and the online manual. All the sirius XM features work including weather and traffic.

Thank you @irpilot and @sethmeisterg for laying the groundwork here. I ordered a kit from infotainment for my '17 hybrid. It arrived today. Mine came with a new screen, vents and head unit. Everything went in fine. It does seem strange to leave some things left disconnected behind the unit, but I guess that's the way it is. Everything in the car is working as expected, including my hybrid screens. I wasn't sure if they would work, but they are in there. Also, mine does not crash when I try to activate the guardian services. It even let me call and try to activate them, but they couldn't see my car information and could not proceed. I don't really need these services, but they seem like they are working in a limited way. I would like to receive OTA updates for the radio, but I'm not sure if they will come through or not.
@irpilot - I would love to know how you made the antenna cable fit into the new headunit. Do you have any pictures?

Thanks again for all of the info!

@smity84 I just centered up with the insert and pressed firmly and it went in. I think it probably pushed the little tabs out of the way as I applied pressure. Sorry o don't have any pictures. I'm curious to find out what software version you're on. Also, have you had any issues with your shortcuts on the bottom of the screen resetting from what you had set up? Also, of it let you call without the plug being installed then maybe it's not for the 3g module. Are you able to use the uconnect app to unlock and remote start your car? I was able to activate my services by calling them from the van but the activate services icon is still there...

I used the one with nav. your call though. i never use the built in nav

Very interesting thread, love to see that this is possible without dropping $1,000+.

Car-Part.com isn't a retailer. They are simply a nationwide database that combines the inventory of local salvage yards into one massive online database. It's one of the best resources ever conceived for the home mechanic...I've found rare parts on there that would have taken hours of phone calls in the past. Bookmark that site!

@TinyRK look back to post 22 and you'll see some pics of the back of both units that sethmeister posted. He did a great job explaining what he used and didn't use.

@irpilot

So you had a 2017 with Nav and XM, right?
And you still had to replace the display?

Looking at pictures from here, I ordered PN 68351931ah - the "receiver", which connects to the display.

And why did you have to order a new cable? The original FAKRA-cable didn't fit?

I'm starting an attempt at the UAV drop in for a late model '17 Pacifica Limited, using a '18 head unit from the junk yard. The FAKRA cable mentioned in post #29 appears to be incorrectly described, it should be FAKRA HSD B "female" to "female" jack cable, not male. I went to search for this cable and then someone told me the Z connector should work, as it is a universal connector - so I'm getting it instead and see how it goes when it arrives.

This is the exact cable that fit perfectly from the processor to the display. Not sure why you'd go with something different but I'm no expert in cables. I just know for a fact that the cable linked above is what works. Let us know if what you ordered works out.

Final Verdict?

So I'm going to take delivery of a '17 Limited this weekend and am super interested in how all of these installations worked out. It seems like most everything works, with the exception of Uconnect Access and perhaps the over-the-air connection to support. Can I ask the four of you that have yours completed what the final verdict is? What ended up working and not working? What does the dealership say about updating the software, etc?

Overall I am happy with my upgrade. It was a lot of money but I now have features that were missing before. Also, the interface is faster and more responsive than the ‘17 hardware.

I couldn’t get the Uconnect app features working, but I wasn’t interested in paying for them anyway. Everything else functions great, with the exception of the Bluetooth quality. There are clearly bugs with the version of software that I have that causes my phone to disconnect and static issues. It works fine most of the time though.

I emailed Chrysler to see if I could get software updates. The directed me to a dealer. I haven’t needed service yet, but I’ll ask when I go in. I seriously doubt they’ll do it though.

One glimmer of hope is infotainment. I’ve asked them about software updates on the UAV system. They referred me to their sister company navrepair. Navrepair responded that they are working to get updates and to check back soon. I’m hoping they can send a file that I can flash to the system.

Like I said, I’m happy with the upgrade. It was really the one thing that I missed on my ‘17 and it was relatively easy to upgrade, albeit expensive. I would recommend going @irpilot ‘s root and get one from salvage to save some money.
