It’s a different code for Uconnect5 (I bought mine online for $10, mistakenly from 2 different sources, and got twice the same code. So pretty sure it’s correct 😅).

It asked me once to enter it. I did.
Ever since then, it just says “Radio Locked. Please start vehicle” with no keypad and no option to enter a code.
See pictures of the 2 different locked modes I had (I was never able to go back to keypad lock mode. I’m probably through 50+ resets now).

Can Uconnect5 be upgraded via USB? I wonder if I can get out of this stuck state via firmware upgrade

I know, I wanted to know if the formula worked for your S/N too.

I was under the impression that you had a black screen with no info displayed. Have you attempted to reset the radio? You can also connect directly to the radio to see if it has a VIN written to it. Entering the Anti-Theft code is supposed to write your VIN to the radio. Maybe it's failing that step...

The radio code received was different than formula: code 2793 for radio 0255.

Correct, I can only get these pictures in ACC mode after a battery disconnect.
Once in RUN (which is the forced after ACC), screen is black (with occasional reverse camera or AC information displayed matching physical AC button changes) until next battery disconnect.

I have not tried a reset via software. I only had access to these menus twice (engineering menu). I have done 200+ attempts of displaying these menus again (via physical AC buttons, temp up/down with/without front defrost).
But they never came back. It seems I am software locked out of them, but with a (very) small percentage chance of being able to trigger them?
Instead of displaying engineering menu, the Radio Locked screen takes place.

How do I connect directly to the radio? AlfaOBD?

TBM: should I upgrade the Telemetric box module? I mainly care about Wireless CarPlay, though I wouldn’t reject new features 😅

Interesting...so, are you prompted to enter the code after every battery disconnect? AlfaOBD can connect to the radio. The fact that you can see some of the overlays of graphics makes me think that your radio "might" have a cabling issue (display to radio). I feel like I've seen someone else on this forum who did the dame thing and ended up getting a different cable for the display (I'll see if I can find it). Did you reuse any cables from the 8.4 to connect the 10.1 screen?

I'm not sure about the telematics box being necessary for most of the things you want to work on the radio to work. You might just loose some of the subscription features but maybe @ThisSuckersElectrical might know something I don't with regards to this. In almost all previous upgrades I've seen performed, Uconnect will not activate features for vehicles that have upgraded non-factory installed equipment (unless it's a warranty replaced radio by a dealership).

I didn't, I used all new cables including the new LVDS cable provided.
I seem to differ: I am able to get some menus displayed (in ACC, after battery reset), until I go to RUN, then I get a black screen.
Even the startup splash screen doesn't display (on UAV, this would display every time I went from OFF->RUN). It more seems like a software locked mode rather than a hardware video cable issue, wouldn't you agree?

I have updated my original post with an updated summary (and potentially help others that might be in the same boat)

Not sure yet. The Black screen appears to be a powered screen and from your screen shots certain overlay images appear which makes me think that a full "signal" isn't being displayed but certain parts of the image "signal" are. Going back to basics, have you tried reseating all of the cables and ensured all required cables are present?

From 8.4 OS installs I've seen with unlock issues, the full display should still be working regardless of locked status but the 10.1 is a different Android based OS.

All cables are inserted, though an unplug & reinstall is a good suggestion. I’ll do this tonight.

this thread has some information regarding required programming, though it seems it should not apply in my case (2017). And if it did, it shouldn’t have the symptoms I am seeing.

So, turns out the thread I was looking for was this one 🤦‍♂️...lol

But, I did find someone experiencing a similar issue (maybe) that was told by the dealer it needed a code.

Also, the only radio setting I've found so far that might relate to different radios (so far) is this...

With regard to the forum link you posted, Jimmy07 is very good at figuring these things out and many of the same tricks used for other models and brands under Stellantis will work on the Pacifica too if the settings are present in the BCM (assuming the wiring is there or will be there as a mod too for what you are trying to accomplish). He's one of my go to people for AlfOBD and mods and when doing searches you'll find his name pops up ALOT on multiple forums.

Ok, so I just bought AlfaOBD and I am learning how to use it.
I was able to do a Radio->ResetECU. No deal, same black screen.
I was able to find the Car configuration Change ->Radio & Connectivity but no option for Screen Size (maybe that’s not a thing for 2017? Or for windows AlfaOBD 2.5?)

I also tried:
  • unplugging the LVDS cable. Screen is 100% dark all the time (no backup camera / AC buttons overlay displayed).
  • the old 8.4” UAV aftermarket LVDS cable I had bought. Same results as above bullet point. This should confirm it’s not an LVDS cable issue.
  • reseated all cables (no change).
My Radio module is (very) hot to the touch. Is it possible maybe I got unlucky, one component inside is fried, but the safety switching overlay PCB (AC/reverse cam) still works? It wouldn’t explain why I get splash screen and other radio locked menus…
This seems like it would be and incredibly poor luck on my purchase.
  • I used AlfaOBD to overwrite the VIN on the Radio. Confirmed via readback. No change in symptoms.
  • I could not overwrite AntiTheft setting (says Enabled), I get an AlfaOBD error message.
  • dumped all BCM settings (doesn’t seem that useful here)

I looked at the 2017 Car configs and I also show no configuration for screen size. If you've connected to the BCM and don't see it, it likely doesn't exist in that BCM (not uncommon). Given all of the troubleshooting you've done I and coupled with @cgreen 's post about similar issues, I think it is possible you just have a bad radio. Where was it purchased from? Do you have the VIN of the source vehicle by chance? Considering others have done this upgrade seemingly without any additional steps you have tried I'd say a return or exchange might be the next best troubleshooting step.

BTW, all of the things you did while connected to the radio are exactly what I would have told you to try, namely resetting the ECU.

I bought a new module, and install went just fine.
I believe the symptoms I had came from a bad module.

@cafute does your 2017 have Uconnect Theater? If so, I'm wondering if you are able to control it from the front screen still? Only you and one other poster in this thread have put in the 10.1 UBN screen and they said they can no longer control their Uconnect Theater from the front. I'd like to go that route to replace a faulty UA4 (I think it's the UA4, whichever one is the factory 8.4 screen for 2017) in my van but I don't want to lose the ability to control the rear screens from the front.

I only have the center screen (no Uconnect theater) in my 2017 Pacifica Touring L.

you must have the RA4 (no CarPlay), not UAV.
2017 didn’t come with UAV.

you could easily add the 8.4” UAV uconnect 4C radio module, should be plug and play and you’d enjoy the upgrade.

Thanks for the quick reply. I think I'll just go with the newer 8.4 to get CarPlay and Android Auto, even if they aren't wireless.

You can get a wireless CarPlay adapter on Amazon, fairly cheap or up to 300 bucks. Depends what you want.

AAWireless has been rock solid for me.

Some of these boxes are full blown Android devices with their own SIM card and become a hotspot.
Some will even allow Netflix, YouTube, Hulu. Etc.
