I took our van in yesterday to an independent for an oil change (the nearest dealer is an hour away). When I picked it up, he said that they had to add 6 quarts to bring it up to the full level. I thought I remembered from the manual that it actually took 5 quarts but I didn't want to argue since I didn't have the manual with me and I don't carry around a desktop with me.
I figured that because they wouldn't have known how to force the engine to run, they couldn't accurately check the level. I went out this morning to force the engine to run but when I then checked the level, it was exactly on the full mark with the 6th quart.
I know running an engine overfull of oil is bad so if in fact it is overfull, I'll take it back to have them remove a quart. My question is if anyone else has run into this?
