Okay, I searched "Auxiliary" on this forum and you have me convinced that indeed I may have a battery issue with both the small and large batteries. My question is when I replace both these batteries at the same time, will the "Stop/Start !" warning light on the dashboard go away?

This my best guess:

After a Pacifica battery is reconnected, the Intelligent Battery Sensor module needs to "relearn" the normal voltage condition.

The process involves 5 separate engine starts, with a minimum of 4 engine off hours between each re-start. IF you have not had 5 restarts with 4 hours of off time between the starts, the ESS lamp will remain illuminated.

It sounds pretty clear, re-reading again, what all these knowledgeable and generous folks have written above.

Step one, go to dealer and politely insist they replace BOTH batteries with new, fresh, fully charged batteries. Don't leave till they've done that... or you will be back additional times, and get more and more frustrated. This is covered under the 3 year 36k warranty, so there is no charge.

Step two, the warning message is likely to still be there when you drive away, but don't worry it'll be fine if they installed 2 new batteries. The system has to "learn" that 2 new batteries are there, and this takes a while. After driving it normally for 1 week, with rest overnight... the warning message will disappear.

Step 3, relax all is well. However remember this experience cause it'll happen again between 1 and 3 years from now. And next time, you'll probably have to buy both batteries out of your own account, not Chrysler's.

How am I doing guys - does that about cover it?

Well said, only item to add would be if you have to purchase batteries don't get the OEM ones, source ones with the largest capacity that will fit it the space/configuration, it will not solve the ESS deign deficiencies but should make the batteries last a little longer.

My dealer is expecting me on Monday wish me luck folks. Thanks for your advice.

Most likely the dealer will install OEM and since it's under warranty I can't request a different battery . I will give it a try anyway , but thank you thou .

One caveat here. They will only do a warranty replacement if their testing deems the batteries have failed.

Excuse me but why is this in the "News" category?
In my case, it may be because I am new at this moderating thing. I have never looked at what forum board a new thread is posted to. I'll take this as a learning opportunity and try to pay more attention going forward.

Peter, a related question for you or other longer term moderators...

Why are there so many MANY separate categories on this Pacifica forum. There are way too many. It's amazing to me how miniscule or "how divided into very small sub categories" this forum is broken down into!

I mean, hey, it's only one car model. Ok, maybe have a hybrid section and a gas section. And have a few "sticky's" on the top of each. But we don't need 20 or 30 or whatever separate categories!

Geez, this car has only been around 3 or 4 years. It seems crazy to me, to have more than, like, 5 or 6 total categories for a Pacifica forum.

I'm wondering who set this up, and if long standing members can explain why there are so many categories?

It's very confusing!

What's easiest for me, is, I just click on the "Pacifica" at the top. Then I scan down what I want to read about. Very easy to pass what I'm not interested in. And the search feature works great, to look for info that has probably been discussed many times.

But click on "full forum listing" (I didn't even know this existed till I was here for a few weeks)... And wow, things are broken down way too small. I mean, so many topics could be in 3 or 4 different categories!

It's unnecessary... to have such specialized topic titles.

Haha, maybe there's even a category for me to learn about this subject... I'm just asking here, cause the experienced guys said, "is this news". (Which, by the way, yes, everything is "news" to new owners :)

Thanks to all -

The forum software is provided by a service provider that runs and supports many many forums. My guess is that they might use the same format for multiple forums rather than just customising each.

What I felt was always an issue was that when I went to the home page, it shows a subset of the forum boards instead of the full forum listing. And now it appears to just show me Recommended for you threads. Not sure if this is stored as cookies for this site. That may be instrumental in some threads getting started in the wrong board.

I will see if I can't get the forum admins to have the home page default to the full forum listing.

Thanks Peter!

But, I don't think I'd want to see a full forum listing, when I go to pacificaforums.com and that's cause there are WAY too many categories. I'm not interested in checking through 30 titles!
When I first get on this site, what I'm most curious about is, what things people have been chatting about for the last month.

Beyond that, I can search for something I want to know about, if I don't see any related, recent, threads.

Anyway, the amazing huge number of miniscule topic titles is confusing and unnecessary. It'd be much easier to navigate, if things were consolidated to 5- 10 different topic categories, instead of 31.

Just my 2 cents,
Thanks, Greg :)

About right, but for my part, both batteries have been replaced in february 2020 and in december 2020. So that’s 10 months and 6000km. Under warranty.

Yeah THIS is horrible!! It's really bad that they didn't address this with the 2021 refresh.

I hope the same doesn't happen to me with my new rig... but am prepared for it... due to reading all the great info here on this forum :)

Really?! I mean stinking REALLY?! We've had this new van for 30 days only! Made an appointment with the the local CDJR (they're booked out for until the 3rd week of March ) and I'm going to eat a $$ diagnostic fee already?

Checked the battery monitor just for GP...

Researching and reading amounts of different threads for this issue does not inspire confidence in a new owner. The mods ought to sticky this due it's 'popularity' for all the foot traffic this unique feature earns.

Welcome to the forum.

Your van and batteries should still be under the OEM warranty so there "shouldn't" be a diagnostic fee. Even though I don't have stop/start in my van, it is probably an aux battery issue and since the two batteries are linked, the gauge will indicate a charged battery until the main battery gets brought down from the dying one. Some members would suggest disconnecting the aux battery so the main battery doesn't get brought down until you can get aux battery replaced or diagnosed. The "A" symbol will still show if the aux battery is disconnected.

See what the battery gauge reading is when you put the van in RUN without pressing the brake.

You can download more extensive owner's manuals from the Mopar website if desired.
