2018 Pacifica Hybrid Died while Driving!

Hello All,

Two weeks ago my wife was driving our 5 month old 2018 Pacifica Hybrid when all the lights on the dashboard went off and the van wouldn't drive anymore. The car was on but did not have any forward momentum.

We had it towed to the Dealership where they proceeded to replace a "hybrid disconnect" part but that didn't fix the problem. Now they are saying they have to order another part which is back ordered and it will be another 2-3 weeks.

The Dealer has had the van for two weeks already so adding another 2 - 3 weeks will put it well over a month. They have given us a rental while they try to fix it but it is a gas guzzling Durango. The main reason why we purchased the hybrid was the gas savings which we are now not realizing.

Do we have any recourse?

Has this happened to anyone else?

All advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Check this link for each states Lemon Laws:

https://www.dmv.org/automotive-law/lemon-law.php

In California you get:

In California, a vehicle is presumed to be a “lemon" by the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act if, within 18 months of the vehicle's delivery to the buyer (or 18,000 miles on the odometer):

  • 2 attempts or more have been made by the manufacturer to repair a warranty problem that could result in death or serious injury.
  • The manufacturer has attempted to repair the same warranty problem at least 4 times.
  • The car has been out of service for 30 days or more for repair to warranty problems.
  • Problems to the vehicle are not the result of abuse by the owner.

My state isn't as good as CA, in IL these conditions must be met:

1 year or before 12K miles

  • Begin documenting any problems immediately, and keep all your repair receipts. In general, it is good practice to keep a logbook on all vehicle repairs for the life of the vehicle.
  • Once you notice a pattern of problems, continue to keep accurate records. A car must be out of service for 30 business days to qualify as a lemon.
  • Illinois requires 4 attempts to repair the car before it qualifies as a lemon.
  • Usually only repairs by the manufacturer or the dealer will count toward the 4 attempts total, though some authorized service centers may also be included

Hi lshapiro11,
This is not what we hope to hear from our customers, as we understand how having your vehicle for an extended period of time at the dealer could be frustrating. We would like to offer our assistance while you are working with your dealer on this. Send us a private message with your VIN, phone number, current mileage and servicing dealer so we can get started on this.

I've built this gas penalty into my bugdet. Theres no escaping a dealer visit on occasion and its not reasonable yet to expect a hybrid.

At this point i have 40% on current cost and 60% banked per month for future rentals. If you never go to the dealer than you can pocket the cash and pat yourself on the back. For me its $100 (total) a month so this banks $720 fuel a year for a rental. Still killer opperating cost for a van.

The long term gas savings of our hybrid far out weigh a rental penalty sprinkled in.. so your still realizing the savings, just sucks to give some back.

It appears that ChryslerCares mail box is full and it won't allow me to replay to their latest message of no action.

Here is ChryslerCares response

"Thanks for getting that to me. I see that you are located in Canada and have case #34144334. I see that this case is still actively being worked and that you are in contact with the best teams for further assistance!

My Response

Yes, but nothing is being done!!!!! When my wife and I call and speak to ChryslerCares Canada we are told that there is nothing they can do and we should feel "Lucky" that the Dealer gave us a rental car because our warranty does not cover rentals or loaners.

We have a trip coming up in a few weeks and we purchased this van for that very reason.

Also we are burning gas like crazy and we factored in the gas savings so we can afford the payments for the van.

Not to mention no SiriusXM radio and a smaller car.

This is not what we signed up for when purchasing a top of the line $60K "Brand New" vehicle.

How do I escalate this issue as it has now been 24 days since the van was towed to the Dealership.

Also curious what the part is. In this (awesome) tranny breakdown video, it's mentioned that the PacHy has a lot of different interlocks that will kill the high voltage battery if removed (when servicing). Any of these going bad or loosening would match the issue you're seeing. Could be a lot of other things too, but just thought I'd link to it. It's a 60 second snippet (1:16:14 through 1:17:14)

Update from Chrysler"Doesn't"Care Canada

No Van Day 28!!!!

"We are sorry for the inconvenience but we have already gone above and beyond by providing you with a rental car and we are doing our best to repair your vehicle. We are documenting your complaints but there is nothing more we can do."

Update from the dealer.

They replaced part #2 and it fixed some of the issues with the Van but it is still not drive-able. At this point they don't know what to do next so they are waiting for an engineer to be flown in to help them diagnose the problem.

Feeling very frustated having to deal with all this on a current model year 2018, 6 month old Van.
