Got the vehicle Saturday through Carvana. Monday morning started it up and the screen showed auto stop/start unable to work. It's this a common thing? I'm taking it to a dealer to get checked today, any thoughts?

Yes, it is. Doesn’t really affect your ability to drive the car If it is inoperable, with one caveat. There are two batteries, an typical-ish H6 big main battery and smaller, motorcycle/ATV size battery. They are electrically connected most of the time. If one reaches end of life, it can draw down and end the life of the other battery as well. Most likely one or the other battery is dead-ish in your van, hence the error message.

Best practice is to replace both at the same time. Like most modern cars, battery life isn't what it used to be - four years, maybe.

There are also various hacks discussed here to eliminate the 2nd smaller battery. Google search is your friend. Or it can just be disconnected with no harm, though you have to look at the warning light (orange A with a circular arrow around it) for all time.

Good luck. I’ve had an ‘18 for about 8 years now and it’s been a good car.

When you say "dealer" do you mean Carvana or a Chrysler dealer? If you mean a Chrysler dealer, my comment is don't. First take it to an auto parts store that does free battery checks and have both batteries checked. Make sure they disconnect the aux battery from the main and check the batteries individually. The dealer will charge you for the diagnostics and over charge you for the batteries if they need to be replaced. The auto parts store will also read out any codes for the van. Get a printout of any codes and let us know what they are. I'm sure someone here can help advise.

There is a good fix on this sight that I used almost 2 years ago. Sorry I don't remember the article by name but in short it was disconnecting the small battery permanently and there is a plug near the right of the air cleaner gray i believe that you unplug. This only disables the warning light the start stop works normally you still will need to press the button to turn it off if you want it inactive. I've been driving with this method with no problems. Once again sorry I can't remember the article 😔 but it's out there.
