I’m also inclined to agree it’s just an internal wiring issue. The techs do not crack open these transmissions. We’re specifically instructed not to do so. Nothing odd about it, just how they are bout the ZF transmissions. Most we do is change a valve body.

The hybrid transmissions are made by ZF also?

Hey everyone, factory tech here whose personally diagnosed these a decent amount of times this year.

To keep it simple the A drive motor has three resolvers: sin, cos, and excitement. In all cases I’ve seen, the cos resolver is shorting to the transmission case and causing a short to ground condition. It is either intermittent, and will cause a random stall, or shorts in such a way that you can instantly see it on a DMM and the vehicle won’t start and the code will be active

I believe the above poster is right is condemning the internal harness as faulty. It’s probably bad routing or some such.

I don’t see how a flash will solve this unless the flash is just to prevent the immediate stall condition. The problem isn’t common, but I do get about one of these a month coming into the shop and this is in socal with a **** high amount of hybrids on the road.

They might just send the recall flash and deal with the transmission failures as they come as they aren’t exactly common. The trans is covered under the 10 yr/150k mile hybrid warranty

Also, for those concerned with the dealers replacing the PIM, the reason for that is if the short isn’t present during testing the diagnostic flow chart leads to the replacement of the PIM. The first two I had we replaced the PIM first before replacing the transmission. Now when you go to make a Star case to order a PIM the star center will just tell you it’s the transmission and order that first to avoid that waste of time
Can you please show this wire which touch a ground inside?

How you are measure a short ? In which connector pin?

Thanks

The wire is inside your transmission. Nothing an owner can see or do anything about.

2022 hybrid Driving on interstate got the stop safety vehicle will shut off soon. Shut off moments later , barely got on shoulder as cars were zooming by. Had 4 kids in van with me. Filed a complaint with nhtsa, had to get it towed over 75 miles to nearest dealership on a Sunday. 37k miles on it. Trying to contact Chrysler tomorrow. Put vin in this website given in above thread and came back with a recall. Will Chrysler pay , has anyone dealt with this process ? Read a little bit on possible class action lawsuit ? I’m just pissed and dumbfounded by what just happened. Things could have had a horrible outcome for my children and myself

I just saw some new messaging indicating that the XE1 Warranty Extension is now Unlimited Years/Unlimited Miles.
I haven't gotten any official mailing or email, and the XE1 is still the same in my Mopar account.

The updated messaging was in the most recent version of the 03A recall remedy instructions. They are now up to Revision 7 and can be found at the following link:

Safety Recall 03A Rev 7
My local dealer confirmed that my 2021 Pinnacle has been upgraded to UNLIMITED/UNLIMITED on the transmission. They sent me screenshots of the warranties on my vehicle via VIN, and the XE1 shows UNLIMITED/UNLIMITED!
It shows:
Type of Warranty column, " (XE1) RU PHEV Transmission"
Original column, "Unlimited Months or Unlimited miles"
Deductible column, "0"
Expiration column, "December 31, 9999"
Remaining column, "Unlimited Months or Unlimited miles"

I might keep this vehicle indefinitely when I upgrade in 2026. I don't mind dropping an $8,000 engine or a $15,000 HV battery in it when a $15,000 transmission is covered for life. Replacing the engine and HV battery would be cheaper than the vehicle. Replacing all three would be ridiculous and not worth keeping.

@SKPacHy Thanks for highlighting this.
