Well... THAT can't be good...

I had previously mentioned how the dealership had repaired/repainted my hood (at no cost) the first time I got the corrosion on the front lip... then how when it returned, they REPLACED the front hood (or so they said - I never checked) the second time... and now... less than a year later... I ran my finger on the underside of the front lip and I am once-again beginning to feel the bubbling underneath.

Looks like there'll be another trip to the dealership soon.
Why can't they nail this problem down...? I mean, it's not as if aluminum vehicle parts are a new thing... what is the root cause of this recurring problem...?

PacHy bubbling on hood edge driver side

Was surprised Sunday morning when I saw bubbles on the edge of the hood of my PacHy, driver side. 1/2 inch and quarter inch bubbles. Suddenly appeared as I did not see it 2 days ago when I was wiping my car dry, nor when I walked around the van on Saturday evening. Van's been parked in garage at night since I got it 2 years ago.
As per this thread, seems like I need to bring to dealer to see what can be done. :frown2::crying::frown2:

Add me to the list. 4 spots around the hood. Otherwise, no issues with the van but this is a bit disappointing because it's a silly problem that should not be happening. Oh well, let's what the process is going to be.

Anybody know if this is being fixed out of warranty? The bumper-to-bumper warranty on our 2017 Pacifica is done, and we're still in the "Power train" warranty which obviously paint defect don't fall under. This seems like something we shouldn't have to live with on a 2 year old vehicle though.

This warranty has two time-and-mileage limits: • For sheet metal panels, the limit is 36 months, with no mileage limit. • For an outer-body sheet metal panel — one that is finish-painted and that someone can see when walking around the vehicle — the limits are 5 years or 100,000 miles on the odometer, whichever occurs first.

Getting my hood serviced currently. I bought extended warranty but they say that does not cover rental car and they will have my vehicle for 4 days. Anyone who has extended warranty get a rental car?

I just got a used '17 pacifica. The hood is blistered. The are going to replace it under warranty. My question is if they replace it with a hood that is done under the same process it is likely to do it again. Will they extend the coverage and continue to replace them? How does this end? I have 3 days maybe I should take it back.

Found a paint bubble on our less than 1 year old Pacifica. Our local dealer is waiting on Chrysler to approve the repair. Hoping for a fast turn around to get this fixed before it gets worse.

Just noticed the bubbling all along the front edge of my hood! I couldn't believe it. So after a google search I see I'm not the only one. Dealer said to bring it in to look at it. Not sure what happens after that. Interesting they've been making cars for so long and to have a paint issue in 2019 seems crazy.

Good evening, I just purchased a 2017 Touring L Plus with 28,000 miles, noticed the exact same bubbling around the hood. Clearly Chrysler must be aware now this is an issue and is working to solve the problem. Right? I still have the bumper to bumper and the car was "certified" which I really can't see how with these bubbles in the paint, but I have that warranty as well. Has anyone found the go-to department or person to talk to on this at Chrysler? Can you share it if so? Is it better to talk to Chrysler first and get the approval first or start back at the dealership? Thanks, everyone for your help, I love our new car, but we were all scared when we saw this!

I have the issue as well, ocean blue metallic ~25,000 miles, dealer submitted the paperwork to FCA today. Told me it's about ~2 weeks to get an approval then they will get instructions on the fix. On the plus side, it's an aluminium hood, so if the paint does flak off it won't rust out.

Update: Approved in less than a week including holiday. Dealer is going to get the van into the body shop next week, takes about 3-4 days a loaner will be provided.

They are very confident they will be able to make it look factory new. Sounds like the will sand down the leading edge and blend in, a very appropriate fix . Will try to do a walk around the van with them and find them some work while it's in the shop, it was a fleet van before so it has all the typical exterior wear.

Overall, very happy with the responsiveness of both FCA and the dealer. Moving along like clockwork.

Update2: Got the van back on the promise date. The dealer's body shop knocked it out of the park. Hood looks fantastic!

We have a 2017 Pacifica that we bought new in 2017. It currently has 43k miles. Yesterday, the light hit the hood just right and I noticed a bubble, then another, then another.
So, there’s 3 corroded areas under the paint across the seam at the edge of the hood.

I took it to the dealership this morning and they immediately tell me that it’s not under warranty since I’m over 3 years/36k miles, but if I’m lucky, they might be able to do a ‘good will warranty’ for me.

Are these issues covered under the corrosion clause, or does it have to eat all the way through? Besides being frustrated that I have this corrosion on my vehicle, I’m also irritated that I’ve done all my maintenance at the dealership, and they’ve not caught this before I did.

They are liars. See the bottom section in bold.

2.3 Corrosion Warranty

A. Who is Covered?
You are covered if you are a purchaser for use of the vehicle.

B. What's Covered This warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair or replace any sheet metal panels that get holes from rust or other corrosion. If a hole occurs because of something other than corrosion, this warranty does not apply. Cosmetic or surface corrosion — resulting, for example, from stone chips or scratches in the paint — is not covered. For more details on what isn’t covered by this warranty, see 3.6.

C. How Long It Lasts This warranty starts when your Basic Limited Warranty begins under 2.1(E).

This warranty has two time-and-mileage limits:
• For sheet metal panels, the limit is 36 months, with no mileage limit.
• For an outer-body sheet metal panel — one that is finish-painted and that someone can see when walking around the vehicle — the limits are 5 years or 100,000 miles on the odometer, whichever occurs first

I’m not sure if the guy didn’t know about the corrosion warranty or if it doesn’t apply or if they’re just being shady.

But if the dealership is unable/unwilling to send this in as a warranty claim, what’s the next option? Can we get in touch with Chrysler directly?

I have fallen victim to the hood corrosion took it to the dealer had zero issues with them submitting the claim just have to wait on Chrysler to approve it. FYI my service advisor said the sliding doors are also known to do the same thing so just keep an eye on yours because its 6 year/unlimited mile warranty. The hood, sliding doors, and liftgate are all aluminum and would keep a careful eye on all of them.
