First of all, I want to thank to all of you for great work on this thread. It inspired me to upgrade my system as well.
So I ordered receiver 68308807AH. As I understood this one doesn't have nav, but I don't care as long as I can have CarPlay.
Yesterday received item:
Also received 40cm Fakra cable from China (16$).
Display still on it's way, but I was curious to try what I'll see in old one.
So connected this unit. White and yellow wires right above the huge slot are the same as in old one. Huge slot of course matches. Next, grey one (mini-usb-ish) - this one also was in old unit, but had to turn it 180 degrees to insert. Fakra cable goes into white slot at the bottom left. So at the end - green in left bottom, red in right top and black rectangular slot next to it - did not connect anything to these. I'm not sure what are they responsible for. Two cables remained disconnected - obviously original video one, and also one that was in the bottom of my old unit, with 90 degrees fitting, pink color. If anyone knows more, please share (e.g. maybe pink 90 degrees should go to red one, and for what functionality?).
Connected my old screen. Turned car ON - black screen. When changing climate temp, I can see numbers on screen. Reverse camera also works. Of course resolution is too low so I can see only left top quarter of whole image. No anti-theft lock dialog appears, and that scared me. I read here that user
@hotsock2001 had exact same symptoms because his car is Canadian (just like mine). He solved that by buying another receiver module, from Canadian car. So I was disappointed that I must sell that one and look for another one. Small screen behind steering wheel says "Radio locked" with radio tower image.
I left a car for couple hours like this:
And nothing changed. Black screen, only some climate indications and rear camera.
What I did next, pulled out fuse 76 for couple minutes. No changes.
Next, I completely disconnected battery and went for a lunch (approx 40 minutes).
When I am back, I turned car ON and I was so happy to see this dialog:
Of course touch doesn't work and I still have to buy code for this unit. But now I am pretty sure I am very close to success.
Display unit P68316174AB is on it's way and estimated 3-4 days from now. Will share, hopefully that would be another successful case message.
Both units bought on ebay, 140$ for receiver and 220$ for screen (they said it's in great condition without scratches, will see).
Just wanted to share my detailed experience here in order to support this thread which (probably) saved me ~1600$ comparing to $2k infotainment solution
