UConnect 8.4 (2017 Pacifica Touring-L model) - I just got an email about a software update for the vehicle and that the new one is now over the air. Anyone know what's being updated? Anyone receive it yet?

Here's the email:

I got the same email this morning. I assume it will show up on the van touchscreen within a few days. I didn't have problems with the OTA update in Sept. 2017. I don't know what the update is for other than UConnect.

Got it this morning as well, but nothing shows in the van yet. I guess they are rolling it out slowly to prevent overloading the servers, but they should have put in the e-mail something to that effect. As they wrote it, one could expect the notification to be there the next time you start the van.

So what is the version number on this update? I believe we're still running the 17.43.01 and haven't gotten an OTA notification yet. We're taking a longer trip this weekend, so it will be interesting to see if the length of time allows the OTA to come through. I did check the Uconnect update site, but the most recent thing shown there (at least for us) is the same as the 17.43.01 we already have..

Pardon me for newbie question, but do you have to have mobile service in your Pacifica in order to receive over-the-air updates?

I just bought 2017 Pacifica L Plus for my wife couple weeks ago and still learning Uconnect Theater system.

AFIK, the over the air (OTA) updates are independent of any subscriptions you have. The van can always talk to the internet. I get monthly reports on the critical systems of then van (see thumbnail.) I think you have to go to chrysler.com and register as the owner of the van to get it.

Welcome to the Pacifica family.

I have software version 18.11.07
I just tried the voice command button on mine this morning. If I quickly press/release the voice button I get Uconnect voice commanding but if I hold it down longer I get Siri. I’m not 100% sure but it seems like I used to hold it down much longer for Siri than today.

I would like to correct a couple of misconceptions here.
1. 2017s do not get updates over the air, regardless of any emails you may have received. There were some downloadable updates for 2017s in late 2017 that you could apply yourself. Otherwise all updates must come from the dealer.
2. 2018s and later can get over the air updates provided they have the required cellular modem. Some trim levels don't. Check your rear view mirror, if you don't have the Assist button then you don't have the cellular modem.
I believe these two points are true for both hybrid and gas Pacificas. If anyone has counterexamples I would be happy to hear about them.

I'm not sure why you think that 2017s can't get updates over the air.
My 2017 gas Pacifica Touring L with an 8.4 touchscreen, navigation, and assist button (build date Sept 2016) got an OTA update in September 2017 through the touchscreen without a problem (without me downloading anything from the computer). I just touched the screen and followed directions. I received an email for that OTA software update.

The UConnect software version the van currently has is 17.43.01 which was installed by the dealer last spring. The version number may vary by trim level. I don't have a theater package.

I recently received the email about the current OTA update and am waiting for it to show up on the van touchscreen.

2017 Limited owner here. We received the Uconnect update OTA in 2017. We ignored it for a few weeks because people on the forums here were reporting bricked head units after applying the update. IIRC, the update roll-out was suspended and then a new version was pushed. After the problem reports ended, we let the OTA update proceed and had no problem.

We haven't had any OTA update until now. My wife received the recent email, and then got the notice in the van on Friday. For now, we're ignoring it. I want somebody else to be the guinea pig

I wish what AZBean said was true. I'd rather not have ANY OTA update of anything. If the van breaks, we'll take it to a dealer. If it ain't broke, leave us alone.

I downloaded software update from website and updated Uconnect via USB flash drive. I now have 17.43.01 version.

I also have 911 and ACCESS button on the mirror.

Then I saw 3G symbol on top of APPS button and tried to register Uconnect from the van and it worked.

Question: does ACCESS service require monthly payments?

I know when my trial subscription ran out the advanced hands free texting features were no longer available so I subscribed since those are important to me. The newer vans with Apple and Android integration apparently don't have those features anymore.

I am guessing some of the apps would not work either, but again with the new vans you might get them through the phone anyway.

They told me the ASSIST features would not be available without a subscription. But I got different answers about the 911 communication.

It will be interesting to see what the 2019/2020 vans have when I renew my lease.

A free trial of UConnect Access extra features (remote unlock with cell phone, etc.) came with new vans.

It is good to have the van registered with UConnect for update info, etc. for which there shouldn't be a monthly fee.
I bought my van used, two weeks ago, so I am not sure if I get free trial.

I registered with Uconnect this morning, though, and website didn't ask me for credit card. And I saw three options after I registered, one was Advanced Package that had all those features that you mentioned.

When we decided to buy Pacifica and I was doing research about it I, think, I read somewhere that 911 feature would work regardless if you had subscription or not.

EDIT

I just logged in to Mopar site and it says that my Uconnect Access expired.

For a Touring L, I got a free trial for 6 months of Access after a new purchase, so I'm not surprised it is expired for your van. You should still be able to get some vehicle health reports via email and other basic UConnect features without subscribing since I get them. I got the email for the OTA coming up and the one in the past without having to pay for the subscription.

I just updated my U-Connect. I had assumed that my servicing dealer was doing the updates. You know what "assume" means. The process was a bit confusing but I did two updates. One folder was labeled "NAFTA" and the other was marked "RU".
I'll get a chance to try it out later this afternoon and see if there were any significant changes to my system.

My OTA update was seriously botched. I just got alerted to an update today (2017 hybrid) -- I wasn't aware it did OTA updates.

The screen required me to enter a date/time for the update. It gave the warning about how to be in park, certain features disabled, etc. I chose in the middle of the night tonight (~1:00AM). As I was driving it wouldn't let me listen to the radio (a minor nuisance, I can put up with that <G>). The screen asking for a date/time came up again, and wouldn't go away.

As I was driving, all of a sudden the screen showed a timer, and said "Wait 5-10 minutes..." in 3 languages. It then started the update, as I was driving. Fortunately, I was almost at my destination, and I stopped. Backing up into the parking spot, the camera (A SAFETY FEATURE) was disabled. I left the car with it 49% of the way through the update.

I came back about 20 minutes later, and the "Software Update" screen was back, asking me to schedule a time for the update -- even though it presumably had just updated. I tried choosing the default time (now), but it didn't update. Yikes.

So the car automatically did something it had just recommended against (installing while driving), disabled a safety feature without permission (it states that it will disable the camera during installation, but I did NOT choose to install at that time), and is asking me to update (again?) without actually doing it.

Not a great first impression with the update (I bought the car used 7 months ago). I love the car, but this was concerning.

Similar experience:
Last night screen showed up. Set it to go around 11:30 pm and left the car.

This morning the schedule screen was back, with the added feature that the radio would not play. Set the timer for about an hour later (when I would have reached my destination.) Any time I toiuched a screen option, it came back up. Kept resetting for the same time.

Returned to the van in the afternoon -- its baaaack. Set it again for the end of this trip, but did not touch the screen again. (no radio - but camera worked) Parked. No apparent activity......

Went to drive home -- it came back again. This time we were trying make a call, so it kept popping up. The third or fourth time, it did not register the advance in time, and started updating while we were driving! There was no place to safely to pull over until the update progress bar was about 80% We pulled over, waiting about 15 minutes, and restarted the car. No radio, and I it asked to schedule again. Then a screen popped up that the software was updated, but the "what's new" button was not "live" (Still no radio, but backup camera worked.) It was almost immediately followed by a "schedule update" screen. Now that I was parked, I entered the current time to see if it would activate the process. No action. Went into the house for a while.

Came back to check, and the "completed" screen was up again (and the radio was on.) The "What's new" button was "live," but uninformative.

I am guessing that the progress bar that you see on the screen is merely the download -- then it has to install, which seems to take a lot longer than the 10 minutes the initial screen indicates.

The software version is 18.43.01 (I have a 2017 -- I don't know what the previous version was.)

@ChryslerCares -- can you verify the correct version for an updated 2017 systems? And get an answer why the update was not downloading when requested and actually downloading against its own rules while the van was actually driving?

@jerry17 and @rscott0 Thanks for posting your experiences. My van showed the message on the touchscreen for scheduling the OTA update this evening so I tried it a couple of times and it didn't seem to finish the update or change anything. I will check tomorrow to see if anything unusual happens or if it asks me to schedule it again since the software version didn't change from 17.43.01 today.

My 2017 Pacifica was also stuck in an endless loop of continuously displaying the schedule update screen. I would set the time for the update, press"OK", and a minute later the schedule update message appeared again. Over and over and over... All the while the radio was inop and so was Bluetooth audio and Siri. So I did the steps advised by Chrysler Cares above:

We are very sorry to hear this concern has been occurring. If these pop-ups are still occurring please follow these steps:
1. Choose 'Schedule Update'
2. Set time 2 minutes ahead of current time (for example, if it is currently 8:43 AM, set the time for 8:45 AM)
3. Once the time is chosen, select 'Set Time'
4. Select 'OK'. Do NOT press the X.
5. Wait for 3 minutes to allow the set time to pass (for example, if the time was set for 8:45 AM, wait until at least 8:48 AM)
6. Perform two button reset (Simultaneously press and hold the circular Browse/Enter & Power/Mute buttons)
7. Wait for 'Schedule Update' pop up to be shown again, but do NOT Set Time
8. Perform a complete sleep cycle (steps below)
-Ignition off
-open door
-close door
-lock the door
-Wait for 10 minutes
9. Turn the Ignition On, and the pop ups should cease

And this ended the endless loop of pop up messages, my touchscreen functionality and radio and so on returned to normal. But the system version did not update, stayed on 17.43. I could not care less, I got my radio back!

Hey Everyone..it has been a while since I have logged on. Does anyone know if the OTA updates are available in Canada? Are the procedures different here? I ask because we do not have the Uconnect App available to us in Canada. I checked today and my system is currently at 16.23.23.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

I have not yet received an update notification (I'm in Toronto). Can you please comment if/when you get an update notification?

I got a notice yesterday morning about a UConnect Update in my 2019. I hit SCHEDULE - it brought up the current date and time and I hit UPDATE NOW and screen cleared out. Just did my thing the rest of the drive. Next time I started up my car - it said Update was successful.
