Does anyone know why the driver side LED strip in the headlight is not working? The low & high beams work fine in that headlight, just the LED strip is not working.

2017 Touring L
I am here as a shop owner to post the solution to this thread. As I was chasing a customers vehicle woth the same problem. There is a ground to the taillights underneath the left rear bumper. It's a 10mm bolt. Pull it off, clean it, put it back on. Waaala!!!

We are in the same boat with the driver side flicker, sounds like it's just the module. However, since it's part of the lamp assembly, I can't see why this isn't a warranty repair for us. We bought the extended Mopar warranty. It says it covers assemblies but not bulbs. Dealer charged $180 to say it needed replaced and not covered under warranty. I had the dealer reverse the $180 charge because I disagree with them. I'm not sure how to get someone in Mopar to reverse that diagnosis since it's not likely the LED at all...any thoughts before I pull this bumper off myself?

Well, as promised, following up, and with good news - my LED strip is FINALLY FIXED! Thanks again @Greyrock, wouldn't have been able to do this without your guidance.

NOTES:
  • As per my plan, I first tried only the Headlight Ballast Control Module (Part Number = 147000015100) tested, and it worked!
  • I'd still had the LED DRL Headlight Ballast (Part Number = 6002TP0105) ready to go, but ended up not needing it. May send it back to the seller for a partial refund.
  • The bumper removal and entire process took all of 1 hour, and I didn't have my power drill charged or it could have been much quicker honestly. There were no gotcha's based off the YouTube videos out there on getting to the headlight. Also, I had no screws or clips laying around after the job, so that is a testament of how painless and easy it should be!
So, TLDR: If your LED Strip is out, but it flickers quickly several times when you start the vehicle or turn on the headlights, the above may be your fix---for under 20 bucks.

Good luck to any one that comes across this post, and feel free to DM me on here if any questions on the process! 😄

Hello, thank you all so much for the thorough explanation! I have a headlight out and a dimmed LED strip. The mechanic quoted me $450 to replace the “ballast” but I’m sure I could do it with the help of “fleabay”😂 and YouTube University. Do you think replacing the part you listed would alleviate both of my issues?
Thank you in advance

Well, we had the van in for transmission issue and had them look at the headlamp again. They agree the entire assembly Part 68228949AH needs replaced. Mopar is still claiming it's not a warranty item. We have the same Driver Side flickering LED at start and intermittently while driving. Mopar charges $1225 for the assembly. Both parts listed above come to about $100. This is the problem with parts and warranties. This is most likely a $45 fix that someone wants to charge $1800 for...

Figured I'd chime in with my own issue... MY21 PHEV... part of the led strip went out a few months ago on the passenger side. No idea why. It almost gives it the prior-model look but I prefer the full led strip wrap-around. Here's what it looks like; working and non-fully-working LED.

I can only assume the whole assembly needs replaced since you can't access what is likely a tiny LED module/chip that lights up the top half. Can't find diagrams of the light fixture itself so any help is welcomed!

This is the very reason I do not use DLRs AND disabled the signature halo lights on mine. They should not be running all the time, especially in the summer months during the day when it is the hottest. Heat is an LED worst enemy.

These headlamp assemblies cost far too much to replace at the tune of $1,200+ for the part, not including labor and recalibration versus having the cool factor of a pointless light on during the day.

FWIW I turned off the actual DRLs in the settings. Didn't know you could turn off the led headlight wrap but I like the look so turning it off was never in the cards. But now of course I have one fully functioning and one half functioning which looks less than desirable. And I've seen two more on the road since I noticed mine months ago. I assume that would have been under warranty under 36k. Bummer.

If it's like the prior model, you can by the LED module on flea-bay, I've done it. Not sure about this newer design.

Even if it was under warranty the dealer would weasel out of it by saying it is a bulb which is a wear item. Technically an LED is not a bulb and should be covered under extended warranties including the rear light bar but they will fight it and call them bulbs. Bulbs are replaceable, butil in LEDs are not.

Wow - I'd forgotten about this post! I didn't realize it got so much activity since I posted.

So far, the potential fixes:
  • Part Number 147000015100 on eBay - Ballast Control Module - Remove the front bumper and headlight to get to this. (This is what worked for me)
  • Part Number 6002TP0105 on eBay - Ballast Module - Remove the front bumper and headlight to get to this.
  • Clean the Grounding via a 10mm Bolt - Under Rear Right Bumper - This seems new to me; @Masonautomotive21 - could you clarify exactly what this would look like? Do you have to remove the bumper or is it just under the body and accessible there?

Does anyone have any instructions on installing the ballasts?
If you were to guess, which ballast would most likely need to be changed out? Should I buy both the ballast control module and the ballast module and change them out at the same time? Are they both located in the same area?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Are you referring to the HID ballasts? if not, the LED strips do not have a ballast, just a control module

Hey - so I spent a LOT of time on YouTube before I figured things out. There's no full-fledged video on this specific fix, but here's what guided me to get things done!:

Removing the Front Bumper; Headlight:

General Explanation of the Control Module as the Culprit:

Mopar Diagram on the Headlight Assembly and its Parts: Google Image Result for https://dz310nzuyimx0.cloudfront.net/strapr1/a6f7dc24c33c5e74468a0d29754cb33e/a7b2a05ec72e9a133c1fbfca2459e49e.png -- #3 is the control module in which I switched. I tested before putting things back together, and it worked! I'd ordered part #4 in that diagram as well, which is what I'm calling the "ballast", but in person you can even see it's got some little LEDs on there that sort of shine through the "strip" LED tube. The one I had preexisting was working fine though. So I was good with just the new control module.

Hopefully this helps!

Lots of good stuff here... and great research!

Do we think this is all pretty similar for 2021+? As I mentioned earlier in the thread, half of my LED is out as it appears there are two "units" that must run in order to work.

Hey - so I did some more looking around, and for the 2021, it's really hard to find anything detailed! It's almost like Chrysler doesn't want to make it too easy to fix yourself, and would rather you just spend money at the dealership buying a whole new headlight for $1,200... 🙃

I will say, searching around on eBay for a 'complete' headlight, with all the ballasts, etc gives you two very different pictures when searching and comparing between 2017 / 2021. It's like the 2017 surely has those 3 modules screwed onto the bottom of the headlight housing, but I'm having a hard time finding the same with the 2021's.

I know it'd be kind of a royal pain to take the bumper off and all that jazz, only to "look" at your headlight's details, but I'm really wondering if those modules exist on it--or Chrysler (starting 2021) put it all inside the unit to make it "unserviceable"...

Wish I could be more help, but unless there's someone else with more info on this newer gen, Chrysler is making it extremely difficult to get such a visible thing repaired without screwing over the customer! 😕

@ChryslerCares - do you, your engineering/service team--anybody!--have any information on why half an LED strip stops working, and the only "fix" is a whole new part that costs over $1,000 at the dealership?
